Visit from Poland
Agata Teci comes to meet Valleys Kids
Earlier this year Miranda Ballin (head of ArtWorks) who is herself a dramatist and a playwright was asked by the Arts Council to go and speak in Madrid to highlight best practice in working with young people at risk of becoming Neets. Whilst she was there Miranda met Agata Teci who runs a similar project called common Room for Kids in Poland.
Common Room for Kids is a highly successful Arts project in Bytom, a post-industrial city in Silesia. Agata works mainly through the visual arts often involving professional artists in creative and collaborative work with the young people.
We were successful in receiving funds from Wales Arts International to fund a research visit for Miranda and a budding young photography graduate to go to Poland and start working on the foundations that we hope to be a successful exchange project and photography exhibition. We have now secured funds to bring Agata over for 10 days and we will be touring her around all the Valleys Kids projects to meet and greet both staff and community members.
Agata is giving a lecture on her work to 3rd year students in the University of Glamorgans' lecture theatre K Block - between 1pm - 2pm on Friday 20th January. It is open to visitors - so please come along as she is a great speaker.
We Look Forward to seeing you there
