"You can do more Youth work in a weekend away than six months in a Youth club."

It has been a long held dream to have a place by the sea to enable us to work with children and young people in a residential setting.

Every summer for the last 20 years we have taken groups to spend a week in a hostel in Brechfa, near Carmarthen. Most of the children and young people we work with have no chance to go on holiday and have no experience of being away from home.
It is a brilliant way for them to learn about working as a team, being responsible for themselves and gaining new skills, confidence and learning about trust and respect whilst having fun.

We have taken out a short-term lease on Little Bryn Gwyn, a cottage in an idyllic situation on the Gower, near Swansea. This means that we are not restricted by the summer climate.

We have all year round access, so that all the children in each of the three areas we work will have an opportunity to benefit from a residential experience. Raising a family can be stressful but the problems are compounded by low income, unemployment and lone parenthood. Little Bryn Gwyn offers an ideal opportunity for crucial respite holidays for some of the families we work with who are facing challenging circumstances. We are able to combine this with support from our Child and Family workers to include parenting and play sessions.

Our long term strategy now is to raise sufficient funding to enable us to buy a place of our own so that we can secure this provision for the future.
